Choosing Your Wooden Electric Gates
There are factors you need to consider before settling with an electric gate of your choice, these factors can be somewhat confusing at times. But help is on hand. Our helpful staff are knowledgeable in all aspects of gate automation. We are here to guide you on how to choose your automated gate.
Electric gates may vary according to their specifications, which are how the gate leaves can be opened, whether you want a driveway, garage door or entrance to your home. Gate measurements also need to be put into consideration. Length and height, together with weight and type of electric gate automation.
Weight and Size
The weight and size of your gate matters because you need to choose an electric driver opener that is best suited for the gate. Each driver allows for maximum weight; manufacturers provide a technical specification of the system to be used. The drive motor usually is fastened to the ground.
A rack and a pinion must also be installed to provide for the smooth lateral movement of the gate. The toothed frame is attached to the gate and linked to the gear of the motor which allows its movement.
Gate Opening Motor
The motor’s power supply can be 24v or 230v. A 24v system can help if there is no direct supply of electricity close to the gate and can also help open the gate in case of a power outage since it can often come with a second emergency battery.
In most cases, automated systems are plugged in a standard 220v outlet, and it is possible to add an external unlocking kit or a pair of safety protocols which allows you to open the gate manually. The automated gate opener for swing and sliding gates are installed in the same way and doesn’t need any additional work.
Swing Gates
For swing gates, size-length and height of the different leaves and weight of each leaf need to be given much consideration as it may not exceed the capacity of the automatic gate driver system. Also, check the distance from the pivot axis and the proximity to the gate’s interior, the border of the posts where the motor will be installed helps in determining how much space is available so that you can choose the right electric opener.
Articulated arm gate motors needs 40 to 50cm of space. Articulated sleeves are recommended for massive walls and posts and adapt to all types of swing gates, heavy or light and single or dual. Power supplies are available in 24 and 230v, and it functions similarly as a human arm allowing an opening of up to 120â°. It is easily fixed to a wall or post and is cost effective for those who want a prompt installation.
